AKUMAL - meaning The Place of the Turtle in Mayan - is home of Centro Ecológico Akumal (CEA).
Established in July of 1993, CEA is a non-profit organization dedicated to the ecologically sustainable development of the Cancun-Tulum corridor. CEA promotes conservation of the natural habitat and native culture through research and education. Please Visit their website for more information.
As owners, we are truly passionate about protecting the turtles and are members of CEA. La Bahia has adopted the two turtle nests in front of our condo building this year. The picture above shows the turtles nests.
Turtle Season is May thru September. We highly recommend the TURTLE WALK thru the CEA Center in Akumal. We have done this and saw a turtle come up to lay her eggs and we were also able to observe a hatching which is an incredible awesome experience. See snorkel map.
